NAD+ injections are used in a wellness context for a variety of purported benefits, but it is important to note that NAD+ injections are not approved by the FDA for any specific medical condition. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) injection is approved by the FDA for managing type 2 diabetes and is also widely recognized for promoting significant weight loss.
Type 2 Diabetes Management
Mounjaro is used in adults with type 2 diabetes, along with a healthy diet and exercise, to improve blood sugar (glucose) control. It is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes.
It works as a dual agonist for two gut hormones: glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors. This dual action helps manage blood sugar by:
Stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin when blood sugar levels are high.
Slowing down the production of sugar by the liver.
Slowing the rate at which food empties from the stomach, which helps prevent blood sugar spikes after meals.

In clinical trials, Mounjaro has demonstrated substantial efficacy in weight management. While its primary approved use is for type 2 diabetes, its mechanism also increases feelings of fullness and reduces appetite, leading to notable weight loss in patients who are obese or overweight. A related medication, Zepbound (also tirzepatide), is specifically approved for chronic weight management in adults.
